EDIT: Leaving KDE running idly on my N800 always leads to a reboot of the system after a few (say, 30) minutes (I believe I have no virtual memory enabled).
I have never seen this happen, look for a runaway process, probably sh. Not sure where that is comming from, if anyone has seen it. I think other people than alternate wm users are experiencing this also.

I currently am running this with no swap enabled. The only other software installed other than KDE is (mplayer, flite, ncurses-base, ncurses-bin, rdesktop, openssh, xterm)

Notice no becomeroot, /etc/sudoers file is overwritten to prvide ALL = ALL

Boot to 2GB mmc
I untar my flash image to other partition
untar KDE version 2 X to same partition
If on n800 cp /etc/sources.lst /etc/apt
boot to new partition

Your n800 correct?

Sure enough - it references Perl..from a /scratchbox/ directory!
I installed Perl, edited the paths and tried again...
"Can't locate diagnostics.pm in .... "

Gah..damn it

What I tend to do is have Phosphor scroll text from syslog, or even irc/pigin in realtime
using flite you can read/speak webpages, and have it speak messages in kopete as they come in

Sorry for not being more specific, but these are the events that I know happened:

- KDE was running almost OK (no desktop background or icons) and I started smplayer, tried watching a movie... when it hung up completely. I only noticed this after a few minutes (was busy) and to be honest don't remember whether I rebooted manually or whether the tablet rebooted itself
- Started KDE again, no problems this time round
- Tried logging onto Gmail using Konqueror, it told me it couldn't because cookies were not enabled
- Tried to enable cookies, but as soon as I clicked the "cookies" tab in the settings I got an error telling me that the cookie service cannot be found
- Left the tablet in my bag
- After a few minutes, I heard the Nokia sound

try running fsck, something sounds funny.

I just started konq, went to bookmarks, open google.com

prompted to accept cookies for domain

clicked on gmail link

logged into gmail, worked no problem

did you get prompet to accept cookies and click reject? Its all working for me, sounds like it might be some fs corruption, try running fsck?

I have noticed some problems with smplayer, if you try flipping fullscreen and back more than once fast, it seemed to hang.

What are your settings for smplayer, I am using xv for video and gst for audio.

There have been several downloads of KDE v2 beta in various forms

KDE356-2-FINAL1.tar.bz2
KDE356-2-FINAL2.tar.bz2
KDE356-2-FINAL3.tar.bz2
KDE356-2-FINAL4.tar.bz2
KDE356-2-FINAL5.tar.bz2
KDE356-2-FINAL6.tar.bz2

These have all been removed. I do not think there will be anymore changes, unless we find a problem. I want to have this tested, and not release full to everyone until after 2008OS is out. My reasoning is, if there is anything I need to fix so it will run on 2008 I can make one version. I suppose I could make a 2008 version if there is a change, but I want to get some final opinions if anyone wants to test, and please provide your experiences.

I ask you to please not release my beta versions if you have any copies of the tarballs, please delete them and send me a PM for a link to the final version 283MB, I need some testers for final version If you have it installed and do not want to reinstall I understand.

Greetings Dr Falken

Do you want to play a game?

There've been no restarts of KDE beta 3 (whilst idle and whilst playing with system preferences stuff) so far and its been up for hours here. I did manage to crash JuK (I have hundreds of mp3s here I added to a playlist) - it was an elegant crash no sys restarts. Haven't played any movies or tickled smplayer.

I've been trying to login to RDP - using the Windows XP RDP client and the "user" account (custom password, 16bpp, 800x600) I can get to a "Login to xrdp" window allowing me to select: VNC, sesman-Xvnc, console, sesman-any, rdp-any, sesman-X11rdp. I admit - I've never used xrdp so I have no idea of any of the options - but trying out any of the selections gets me nowhere.

PM'ed you re final version

I will send you a link shortly,

The xrdp client basically allows you to connect to VNC on the tablet, just entering the password rootme for the initial screen should log you in, its basically vnc over rdp. This saves you from needing a vnc client on your desktop, you can just use the "Remote Desktop Connection" for win for rdesktop. you can also just use vnc.

Notice you can put in other IP address and connect to any vncserver on the network also.

Ahh that explains it then

The beta I installed was KDE356-2-FINAL3.tar.bz2 - if you have a removal script I'll be sure to obliterate it and install the latest tar.
