I wasn't using outgoing proxy.

No longer get error message, but showing as offline on sipgate website.

Trying to call 10000 test number get no audio and call disconnects after 19 seconds!
Just a thought - what make and model router are you using and who is your ISP? Could all be issues.

Router is BeBox aka SpeedTouch 585

I have been looking on web, looks like it may have some kind of sip client.

Just checked n900 wifi communication with wireshark, i see
"239.255.255.250 SSDP M-SEARCH * HTTP/1.1 " as the only activity.

Router log shows

UPnP action 'AddPortMapping' from ip=192.168.1.67 (Success)

Would that be the O2 supplied router perchance?

The manual for at least one version of the Router is online here: SpeedTouch 585/585i Residential Wireless ADSL 2+ Gateway

There appear to be a number of postings on the net (see Google) mentioning issues when there is a binding for SIP or H232 enabled on the router so this might be a pointer to the Router trying to channel these packets somewhere specific - do you have sockets for plugging in a normal telephone to use for VOIP/SIP on the hardware?

If you want to eliminate the Router from the Diagnosis then you could try downloading the software phone to your computer and trying that?

Regarding the Online/Offline indicator on the website. I have finally shown up as being online despite having made several successful calls to the N900 across SIP since your original posting!

I have just found the solution, here incase it helps others
http://www.murray-mint.co.uk/2008/11...peedtouch-585/

1. Use telnet to connect to your router. If running Vista, you’ll need to install Telnet through Add/Remove Programs otherwise, you can use Putty.
2. Type in the following commands

connection unbind application=SIP port=5060
saveall
You have to unbind port 5060.

Thanks for all your help and sugesstions, I really must try these things in the day time!

Sipgate website status now online and showing details of n900 connection

Welcome to the world of free SIP

Moral of the story - Buy a router rather tha use the freebies as they often have their own pain attached!

Might be worth pasting the text referenced in your post in case the page is pulled later.

a lot of domestic routers have sip alg's which are broken, turn off if possible, with some this is only possible in hidden/advanced menus; zyxel you have to telnet in IIRC.

hth, sorry about the tla's

Additional Information:

Got to Advanced Settings....

Tick 'Use for Telephone Numbers' (Obvious but helpful!)

Username: <account>@sipgate.co.uk
Transport: Auto (might need to play with this sometimes)
Outbound Proxy: sipgate.co.uk
Port: 5060

Tick 'Discover public address'

Keep-alive mechanism: Auto
Keep-alive period: Auto

UnTick 'Auto-detect STUN' to gain access to settings...
STUN server: stun.sipgate.net
STUN port: 10000 (that is ten thousand!)

You should now be good to go. Obviously need to make sure your router isn't blocking the relevant ports or domains explicitly but these settings seem to work on most routers I come across.
Can you please post the screenshots as I am still unable to use Sipgate UK account on my N900 Pr1.2.. I have tried all the settings but unable to login..

I have a Nokia N900. I have had it for a will but am very much a novic. I set up a SIP account but it will not let me sign in. My account is my e-mail. I use the e-mail and the password I use on my computer but it is not working on my phone. Any ideas on what I can do
