i am getting the issue on the update to a number of applications message "application packages missing: libqt4-core (>= 4.7~git20100909-0maemo1+0m5)"

i guess i need to remove 4.6.2 and reinstall 4.7

You need to upgrade to PR1.3. Are you running the Vodafone firmware? If so, I don't think PR1.3 is out yet. You could reflash with the global firmware (or the generic UK firmware when Nokia get around to uploading the image file).

That is very weird... I am gonna try it. But if this is true I it is definitively a PyQT/Python bug in my eyes....
