If I could have my N900 locked down to a contract, I would be sooo proud of that contract lol. Unfortunately, Canada has like some of the worst phones ever, soo old dated. I'm forced to purchased all of my phones at full price

I would really love a cool and sturdy Battery Management technology in hardware and BME algorithm.. Wonder why no one is able to reach that milestone.. its more than a decade we use the same tech..

No contract, pre-pay sim right now although I may upgrade to a contract if I find I need more data.

I just got my n900 a week or so ago and it's everything I'd hoped for. Mostly I use it as an UMPC, but the fact it's also a phone, camera and media player means I just need to worry about one gadget, I can even play games on it. Convergance.

I have a few minor grumbles, the OS is very out of date, I'd have preferred something closer to a normal desktop OS, the way the internal storage is partitioned is crazy, battery life is an issue. These points do nothing to hamper my enjoyment of a lovely little device.

AFAIK there is nothing on the market right no that fulfills my needs like the n900 does. I want a pocketable computer with enough grunt, a physical keyboard and an open GNU/Linux OS.

I need to come out of the closet on this... there are days where I take interest in trying the android os (buying an android phone) as its not as lame as an iphone, but still seems to have tons of apps and support, and great performance (quick smooth transitions, supposedly-powerful cpu's) and well rounded OS. I've been peaking at the t-mobile g2 or whatever the new qwerty phone is, as with any other android phone that with a qwerty keyboard that will take a sim card...

I've tried fidgeting with friends android phones multiple times before, and never felt quite at home... I always gave it the benefit of doubt, it could easily be because im not familiar with the phone/OS as I am with n900/maemo. But yesterday I was messing with a friends verizon 4.0"+ phone and decided I just can't make the switch. it was just too boring!!! Doesn't feel like there is any ambition... no panorama desktop, always portrait, multitasking/task-switcher =? fail, most android phones dont have slide out keyboards... the screen transitions are too smooth! does anyone else think this adds to the predictability/boring aspect?!

im not a linux person at all, but I like hitting shift+ctrl+x, and typing in sudo reboot, or sudo kernel-config limits xxx,xxx, or top, or apt-get moo, or the maybe one other command/script I am comfortable with. the multitasking is awesome too! Seeing all the cool things that are happening at maemo.org and knowing there is so much potential in the n900 is awesome.

... I just wish we could have some sort of flash 10.1 support... so hard to not have it on a 'mobile pc'...

It doesnt feel like there really is anything close to the n900 out there... hopefully the N9 is an excellent successor.

p.s. I bought my n900 unlocked (USA), and bought a spare too, just in case...

Not to forget this...i know no other device with such great mobility has such a integrated flash 9 support..

bought mine unlocked, happy in my contract with t-mobile, and the only other phone I'd consider using is the n9 when it comes out

Had all the tablets from the 770 onward, and this is better than them all put together. Also got lots of used Symbian smartphones lying around and will never buy another Symbian device!

Bought second hand and unlocked from a large phone trader for < half list. Was about six or seven months old and had <10 hours of calls on the clock. Previous owner worked in an Apple Center for a while and traded it for an iPhone 4 - I know this for sure because he (and the retailer) left absolutely all his files on it. They don't get zapped - even when you re-flash the phone - Apple support people!

His opinion of the phone was something like: Good, but not at all "mainstream". If you are reading this it's OK; I've erased all your bank, Sky sub, eBay, Facebook, Twitter, CC, house details, and the extensive list of contacts, and some um... pictures. I've also stopped the phone polling your Yahoo and Googlemail accounts, deleted the facsimile of the birth certificate, and all those passport numbers etc. too. Hope you and your chums enjoy their Ryanair flight to the Balerics - wrong time of year, but you did get that quite cheap. And even though you did get student discount on that Apple notebook, you were robbed there too! Thanks for all the paid-for dowloads though, I'm really enjoying the audio books, and may even do the language course, but a lot of the 'girlie' music isn't to my taste.

I'm a Pythonista so am having great fun with all the hardware APIs. Can't wait for an N9 but I guess I will pick one up about a year or so from now, after someone else has taken the major slice of the depreciation.

All the comments above are valid. More RAM Nokia! Hardware geeks need RAM, and you are always too stingy. 512MB will do for the next iteration though. Bigger screen; BIGGER battery; my phone is not competing with the rest of the herd's fashion goods. Think we are going to get a capacitive screen though - which I will suffer but dislike. This Acer I'm typing on has a capacitive screen (and no stylus); it's sometimes a pain to use, and I have to resort to using a mouse. Something I never thought I'd have to do with a decent sized touch tablet.

RAM, GPU, Powefull CPU ( dual or more core is appreciated ), Best battery algorithm implemented (if Hardware wise there is limitations).. It can't be expensive..

The one things which stands in this market is, Mobiles are cuter, Smarter and sells in huge numbers than a Quad-core PC implemented with huge R & D..

Its very easy to get through the Break Even level with mobile devices after R&D .. I mean to see a profit..
