Hello,

so I spent the last 2 hours or so trying to figure out why I kept getting the dreaded "Exchange server requires secure connection or account is disabled" - when I knew the connection info was correct.

I read through the wiki,
http://wiki.maemo.org/Mail_For_Excha...g_ON_or_OFF.3F

but it didn't explain to me how to actually go about getting and installing the ssl certificate.

The thread the wiki points to is now over 100 pages:
http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?p=401238

So here are the steps I took to get exchange working with a self-signed certificate off our exchange webmail server on my PR 1.1 N900.

First, open up your IE 7, and go to your webmail exhange site (https://webmail.pleasework.com/exchange).

You will see a nice padlock at the end of the URL, click on it.

Now you should be presented with a choice of options, click on "view certificates" - the last option.

Now, you'll get the certificate window with three tabs, click on "details".

Towards the bottom of the window you'll see a button titled "Copy to File". If this button is greyed out (you're not able to click it), you need to disable your "internet security". (Tools --> internet options --> security, uncheck 'enable protected mode').

Once you click on "copy to file" a niffty wizard appears, click "next", on the export file format page choose:
Cryptographic Message Syntax... (PKCS #7) AND MAKE SURE YOU CHECK OFF "Include all certificates in certification...."

The last part is very important, as I kept exporting ceritificates in different formats and that's the only one that allowed me to "install" it.

Click "next" and give your cert a file name and click "next" and then "finish".

Now copy your certificate over to your N900 through whatever mechanism you like (I used scp).

Now comes the magical part, open up your FILE browser and click on your certificate.

If all went well, once you click on the certificate on your N900, it will ask you whether you want to install the cert and for what (email, internet, etc - I checked off all 3).

Now you can setup your exhange again, and you should now be able to connet and sync your exchange email.

Hope this helped.
