Yeah. Here's a funny thing. I'm on linux now, during my reboot (windows to ubuntu) II heard one of the system sounds kick in. So here's what I troubleshooted to rectify the issue, I did all four of these in no particular order.

    1 apt-get install --reinstall gstreamer0.10-plugins-base
    2 apt-get install --reinstall gstreamer0.10-plugins-good
    3 sudo su > pulseaudio
Got a lotta bad information and errors
4 sudo su > pulseaudio --system
    Same thing, lotta errors

System sounds came on, call audio works, and music plays.

Don't know why, but all of a sudden I have no audio, pulseaudio is not started and when booting there is no boot video because the sound system is borked.

As far as I can determine it started to stop working after installing power kernel v45. However now even when reflashing back to default PR1.3 kernel pulseaudio does not start up.

Here's what happens when I start it after booting:

    Code:
    [1|root@Nokia-N900|~]start pulseaudio
    pulseaudio (start) waiting
    pulseaudio (stop) starting
    pulseaudio (stop) starting
    pulseaudio (stop) waiting
start: pulseaudio respawning too fast, stopped
If I keep repeating it then after a while it manages to start and I have sound again:

    Code:
    [1|root@Nokia-N900|~]start pulseaudio
    pulseaudio (start) waiting
    pulseaudio (start) starting
    pulseaudio (start) pre-start, process 2181
    pulseaudio (start) spawned, process 2186
    pulseaudio (start) post-start, process 2187
            main process 2186
    pulseaudio (start) running, process 2186

I can confirm this issue can happen without installing power kernel (although the power kernel does seem to be affecting people). I was running the stock kernel when this happened to me the first time, my only answer was to reflash.

It happened again, this time however, SavageD's suggestion of "start pulseaudio" as root in the terminal worked. It didn't work last night, but it did now. Wonder why pulseaudio keeps killing itself.

it happend to me after update kernel-power yesterday to v45
    after that i updated kenerl-power-bootimg and multiboot-kernel-power

now i have no sound when i boot with kernel-power

    BUT

when i boot in standard kernel (option 1 on multiboot) the sound is working right from the start.

so this is to me the power-kernel that is causing this error

i have tried "start pulseaudio" after booting to the power-kernel, that worked ONE time, after reboot the command wont work again.

    please help

    Hi,

I'm having the same problem: most of the times the phone boots and pulseaudio doesn't start. No sound, no ringtone, no sound during calls. This is a very serious situation, in my opinion.
I'm surprised that this thread isn't getting any attention.

For me, this started after updating to power kernel .45 but coincidently (or not) when I tried booting meego from the memory card (which I was unable to do in case you're wondering)

Now, every time I boot the phone I check if sound is working (try to increase or decrease volume and see if the volume bar is shown). If it doesn't I have to go into x-term and use

    sudo gainroot
    start pulseaudio

And usually I need to run the 'start pulseaudio' command a few times before it actually starts. When it doesn't start, it says 'respawning too fast' or something like that...

I would honestly like to know if this a general problem or only a very few of us are suffering of this.
For me it's really annoying because my N900 is my business phone and I have lost a couple of calls already due to this.

Hopefuly pulseaudio keeps running and doesn't fail all of a sudden during the day.

Any help or suggestion to what's causing this is welcome.
My guess would be power kernel .45.

Happens to me too. It started since I updated to PR 1.3 (OTA).
    I never used power kernel.

I have to reboot two or three times until the
    sound works.
