I would like to know if Meego does have a future on the N900 now that Meego o/s seems to need a minimum of 512MB of Ram to work, if not, it will be a major disappoint if PR1.3 is effectively as good as it is ever going to get for the N900.
I got the impression that the n900 will continue to be the reference platform for a bit of time.

Yes, 512MB of RAM is minimum. Someone brought this up and I dont remember much of a response, maybe just swap?

I hope also that they did a mistake and 512 MBytes RAM is a software limitation (swap) and no hardware limitation.

Because everything else would be a big fiasco for IBM.

The big elephant has born a mouse!

All effords for a distribution for smart devices would be useless.
If you have the specifications of a desktop distribution the results of miniaturization are ZERO!!!

That's no distribution for Smart devices but a distribution for stupid gas machines à la IBM.

Meego the main frame distribution!

Look at how much ram most smart phones have these days? Ive been seeing a lot of devices with 512 or more. You can have a special purpose machine with less but when you have a end-user multi-tasking device with multiple web browser windowsmaybe music or a video and then a call comes in. You do not want things to start swapping.

Since the n900 is a reference platform but not an end-user platform, I imagine they can get away with it.

I'll just correct you on some of your misconceptions.

1) IBM isn't involved in MeeGo, Intel is.

2) MeeGo isn't based on Debian. (Saw you mention that in another thread)

3) MeeGo handset targets high end smartphones and I'll go out on a limb and say that every high end smartphone next year will have at least 512 MB RAM.

I'm not even sure what exactly your gripe is? What kind of devices would you want to see MeeGo on, and what kind of hardware specs you'd expect those to have?

Yes, swap was the answer.

Hey guys,
I spoke with a tight-lipped product manager (he was on n95 8gig team now on something else) nokia guy who admired me using an n900 and could talk about it. He said sorry even though n900 is still used in r&d meego won't ever be available as an os for us.
I say who cares? Maemo rocks!
