I don't think E7 and N900 fall in the same category. Not to say that E7 is a bad device, but 16GB internal memory with no SD slot instead of 32GB+SD? And upgradeable? How would that be? I don't think Nokia expects it's endusers to know how to flash a phone... How about the tonns of payed for symbian apps? When are they ALL going to be ready for meego? Since they would have to be transferrable.
Maybe the next gen device won't be called N9 but surely E7 either.

I think/hope that it's gonna have x86 CPU, hopefully a 1.5-1.8GHz Intel Atom Moorestone. If it's not at least 1.2 I won't bother upgrading for now even if the other specs are nice. My N900 is quite good now

i want it because this will be 5th time I am sending my N900 for repair for the same problem over and over again, Iam not able to use the phone app in daylight because it thinks some object is really close to it, and PALCO / NOKIA in Alabama send me my N900 back with-out doing anything all they do is reflash the OS and EMMC and now this last time which is 4th time they did not even do that.

Thank you for the cross post. Your effort would be better spent in trying to beat some sense into Nokia repair. But first I would get my story straight. Either they did nothing each time but flash it or they replaced it the first three times and flashed it the last. They will know what they did. I'll hit you privately with an email address and, if I still have it, a phone number that might prove useful.

I'm convinced: People don't want the N9. They want hope:
Before, it was PR1.2 would fix everything. Then, PR1.3. Then MeeGo.
    Now, it's the N9.
People want to feel like there is something better out there that will solve all the problems they run into - whether that's a new device, OS, add-on, or update, it doesn't really matter.

    You're right!
New features are introduced...we want them on N900 too.
If Apple comes up with a phone that walks your dog, we want that on the N900.

I want an external HDMI monitor output and USB so I can ditch my laptop once and for all.

Hopefully the N9 won't add HDMI but screw up the N900 features such as the ability to take graphic notes with a stylus.

What I want is a Linux pocket computer with a decent size keyboard and screen, a modern CPU and plenty of RAM that can last several days between charges with normal use and doesn't phone home with my private data. Whether the N9 fulfils these requirements is still an open question and really up to Nokia, but so far no one's made a device that makes me want to switch from the N810.

Well, I absolutely don't want a capacitive screen, they are completely useless for me, totally unprecise. I'd rather wait for a resistive multitouch screen which takes best of both worlds (Hitachi seems to be working on it).

Also, it would be very difficult to me to renounce to the physical keyboard so I thing I'd let pass the N9.

What I want is something like the N900 but with a bigger screen (4" or more), an e-compass and a better stand-alone GPS, More RAM and faster CPU are added bonuses. I'm ever hopeful the N9 will fulfil these hopes.
