Gmail often stalls at "loading" or "still working", specially, but not only, while switching pages of search results and when logging in.

Any way i can have it be more responsive other than switching to the plain HTML mode or otherwise giving up on the javascript functionality?

microb or fennec?

I use gmails iphone/touch site. I find all googles heavily on javascript dependend services bit too heavy for microb+n900 (actually not so suprised because some of my older desktop machines seems to also get bit little laggy on some heavy pages)

I'm using microB.

I use Thunderbird on my desktop, and i got an account specificly for using on my N900 that i have my main account onlyautomaticly forward certains messages and i don't haven't revealed the address to anyone (except google of course) so i don't get spam and other unwanted or too frequent messages ringing on my N900 all the time ; but with my desktop down for maintenance for a few days and a trip on the horizon i've started to use the webmail interface more often, some of of the features there are not avaiable in the plain HTML mode and are missed everynow and then.

Is there really no way to make it lighter other thn switching to alternate more limited modes?

Probably no. Maybe switching all lab features off if you have enabled them. Gmail is quite heavy on javascript side.

With MicroB: Do you have "Javascript Pausing" enabled? I find that gmail's desktop version becomes remarkably more usable when you disable it.

It'll still occasionally get stuck, but on a good connection, a simple reload should fix it. I use desktop version of GMail all the time, and it's wonderful to me when you set Javascript pausing to off. (Newest Google Docs versions are still a bit laggy, and last I checked Google Wave was nigh unusably javascript heavy, at least without overclocking, but GMail is fine.)

Just keep in mind that sometimes Javascript Pausing will turn itself on again. I haven't been able to figure out how or why it happens. But sometimes if it suddenly starts lagging again, it's a good idea to check microB settings to see if it reenabled JavaScript Pausing again.

I already have js pausing set to "no". I tried using Fennec and it doesn't seem to have the issue; what is making the difference?

Fennec probably has newer core engine than microb. Javas is at least much quicker on fennec than on microb.
