When rather often, for still unknown reason, Desktop suddenly looses many of its widgets and shortcuts, one wants to restore Desktop from the newest backup in ActMan, one has to first switch to backup, then delete "Default", then make a new one "Default".

Could that be done little easier? I'd like to just load from the old backup, copy it to Default or Current and the old one would be unmodified. This could be done in a one step. Now if I forgot the delete/make_new steps, it will destroy also the backup when next time the dekstop-icon-vanisher-bug triggers.

Other thing:
In the start of the week I had somewhat serious bug.
[A Bug] Alarmclock and Calendar alarms are silent

I wonder, why switching to old backup from ActMan fixed the issue? I hadn't switch or used ActMan for couple of weeks when the bug came and alarms in Clock and Calendar became silent suddenly.

If I understand you correctly, you want to be able to restore a "messed" activity. For example, if you're in activity "main' and you re-arrange some icons (or some widgets disappear) you'd like to restore the activity "main" as it was.

If this is the case then you can run from a shell:
This will force a re-load of the current activity.

In general, you can do many things from the command-line tool that are not possible (or are hard to be done) from the GUI.

I'd have already added some more functionality to the interface if I could add a menu. No matter how I tried, it seems that it is not possible to have a menu for a status-menu plugin. This restricts the number of buttons to 5. The only solution I can think of is to add a "More" button and include some actions (like "Rename") in a popup menu.

I can't tell how this happened but actman backups and restores all gconf entries that are related to the desktop. Perhaps alarmclock stores something there. I can have a look on that.

Hi.

First of all thanks for the great app. It's really useful since I have to use every now and then multiple desktops which I regularly do not use. Now, I'd have a minor feedback.

Once I installed Desktop Activity Manager and rebooted I noticed, that it had restored my DrLaunch widgets back to stock ones. Normally I had five icons, which I had adjusted, and now I had four stock ones.

I first "blamed" Black Plastic of this but came to notice, that it really was DAM/actman that did it. This is, according to another developer, because of DAM/actman using:

When it could be using:

So, if possible, I'd request that the DAM/actman would use in future the "soft-reset" instead of hard-reset. That might also leave the DrLaunch unaffected, no?

Again, thanks for the great app, I'll keep using it. And yes, I'm using the latest stable version.

Well, that's a bug of DrLaunch. Since I've also written DrLaunch, I took care to include support for actman. To do this I used a combination of the current activity and the widget id to uniquely identify an instance (and thus its settings). This way, every widget instance is unique even between different activities (which would otherwise be not).

The support for actman is optional in DrLaunch since actman may not be installed, so if actman is not installed it will just use the widget id. When you installed actman, DrLaunch started using a different widget id which did not have your original settings. When you restarted your desktop, DrLaunch failed to load its settings because of the different unique-id and it started with the default settings.

I remember adding code for supporting the non-actman -> actman transition but either I remember wrong or it failed. Either way, this is a problem of DrLaunch

I'll give it a try. This is something I wasn't aware off, so I'll test it. Thanks for noting it!

If I'm right this is again, a bug in DrLaunch, but just to be sure I'll post it here.

So if I make new widgets for DrLaunch for Desktop Activity e.g. Normal and duplicate that to DA e.g. Portrait I lose possibilities to customize DrLaunch. Why is that? Well, since I normally would be customizing the launchers to custom ones (ones for Portrait others for Normal) the app comes in and every time mirrors the made changes from one to another. For example, now I have Portraits some DrLaunchers on Normal and vice versa.

I'm using DrLaunch with D.A.M. all the time and I don't have problems. Can you try to explain it again? Perhaps with step-by-step instructions on how to replicate the bug.

It's alright, I was wondering if anyone understood me. So here we go:

1. Create new desktop using actman. Let's call it for now Normal.
2. Create for that specific desktop new shortcuts using DrLaunch. Let's use Phone, Conversations and Web (or Microb, if you have Browser-switchboard installed).
3. Create another desktop with actman and let's call it Portrait.
4. Create new launchers again using DrLaunch, let's use Address Book, Settings and e-mail.
5. Swap between desktops with actman to Normal. You should be now in Normal and you either lose launchers, get Normals mixed up with Portrait or/and vice versa, when switching back to the Portrait.

At least this is the way, that it happened to me. I think it's the same, what you mentioned earlier, that already should be implemented in actman/DrLaunch, but isn't. That's the unique id's. I'm suspecting, that the id's somehow get mixed up and thus you'll see some launchers on wrong desktop.

There are a few bugs from what I've seen:

1. Problem with DrLaunch like mentioned above. I have 4 desktops (all have Dr. Launch) in 1 profile, and a "clear" profile without anything and only 1 desktop. Switching between these retains DrLaunch settings on some desktops but not all, some are reset.

2. Sticky notes: removing or adding this widget applies to all actman profiles.

3. Status area icons reload: some icons does not reload, like the "No wifi" icon in Wifi switcher.

I use the "Desktop Activity" app for a couple of weeks, it's great app, Thanks to author.
I have a question maybe it is possible to add some other options to this app.
I using the two profiles "Default" and "Car". In the car profile, I always use the BT and 3G internet connection with Skype online - this is a Car (custom) profile from "Availability".
Maybe author can add the option to switch BT on/off and connect/disconnect 3G (and maybe wifi) to the custom profile of "Availability" when I change the Desktop profile from the "Default" to "Car" and from the "Car" to "Default" ?
