2. More compatability.
I know there isn't much of a chance of changing this now, because its on the ARM architecture, But still. Why did they build it on the ARM Architecture?
3. OpenTTD.
This is one of the main things that convinced me to buy my N800. Thinking I could take Transport Tycoon Deluxe with me where ever I go. But so far, this is just a bleak dream.
4. No more Bugs!
"Internal Error: Application "Web" has closed". Why?
5. Stop feeling like its still in development!
Admittedly I could have merged this with #4, but still! I feel like a Beta Tester. Not a good thing when I paid 240$.
6. No more slow browser!
I can run Quake and Doom just fine, but when it comes to the Internet, which should theoretically run lots better.I tried both the Opera and Mozilla based browsers. Both are molasses slow when there are multiple images on the page! This just angers me!
7. An interface that doesn't suck.
I dislike it so much. Even with Idea I still dislike it.
8. VLC.
Simple. VLC is THE best Video player out there.

I think I'm going to sell my N800. Maybe I'll come back when these have all been fixed.

1) OS2008 adds this.
2) Erm, ARM is extremely common. ARMEL isn't, yet, and the big issue is library compatibility. OS2008 is fixing that: we'll be able to start using Debian ARMEL packages (I hope!) and take advantage of the Debian maintainers.
3) Can't help you there.
4) MicroB or Opera? I get maybe one of those errors a month, and usually it's because of Flash.
5) ...ok, you've got me there.
6) Try installing the CPU/Mem status bar plugin. See what's peaking.
7) To each their own: again, OS2008 is supposed to shine this up.
8) This is true, but mplayer is also ffmpeg based. What are you missing from VLC?

Here, I'll take a swing at this:
1) Flash always sucks, everywhere. Hopefully 2008OS will make it suck faster on the N800.
2) ARM is an awesome architecture. That's why this thing gives off no heat, costs $240 (instead of $2400), is the size it is and has such insane battery life. In terms of compatibility the problem is much more software (and to a lesser extent SDK) related, rather than hardware related.
3) You need to install it from xterm.
4) The Web crashes went away when I disabled flash. See first point: flash sucks.
5) There are rough edges. Lots of it has to do with 3rd party software and hopefully it will get cleaned up as time goes on.
6) It's pretty fast for what it is. Even slower desktops (1GHz P3) don't render web pages isntantly. It turns out that rendering HTML is actually a pretty involved process. Try turning off flash and not opening too many windows.
7) What part don't you like? For the most part I find it to be a decent compromise between nice looking and easy to use. *shrugs*
8) VLC is good at some things. On Windows and Mac it is definitely the best. On Linux I'm torn between VLC and Mplayer. Mplayer is faster and optimized for ARM.

Anyways, if I were you I would hold out for a couple weeks and see if you like 2008OS better. Plenty of time to sell it after that. Your choice though.

For price, battery drain ... look at the autonomy of intel core solo umpc : 2 hours.

It s not the better ... mplayer is better.

I have to agree on the interface, for all the reasons that this guy compares it unfavorably to the Apple Newton. It's massively wasteful of the limited screen space, and clunky.

I'd add that it needs a quality email app.

I often wonder whether they wouldn't have got further by building on top of a lightweight window manager like xfce - with some clever filtering on the touch screen etc., to intercept and interpret screen touches (e.g., over a text area, pop up keyboard...). Then at least you wouldn't have to have apps ported to Hildon, but perhaps Hildon brings efficiency?

I really hope you're right that OS2008 brings Debian ARMEL compatibility... That should have been in from the start.

6. keep/add the keyboard that is on the n810.

get rid of the radio receiver, it sucks in some places...

I give this 5 years for nokia to get up to this, and develope the Nx0 OR some other stupid name.

Its mainly flash thats slow, turn it off. (This is not specific to the tablets, its the same on older desktop PCs)
The interface is great. I wouldnt want it to change a bit.
Fine. I hardly ever use it, but software's always good.
