Sometimes hildon-desktop doesn't restart properly, sometimes it does, it's pretty random, which is why I said either killall or reboot.

If anyone's wondering, post #17 is the same package but with 6 lines in landscape mode.

MohammadAG: Did I ever tell you how much I love you? (Now I just have to get myself to set up scratchbox and start doing actually useful things instead of mooching off people like you. Like make as many of the status menu applets as possible to not yank you out of portrait mode. I'll do my best to figure that out in the next few days, but knowing this community, the non-newbs will figure it out way before I can.)

The status menu won't rotate to portrait if the window behind it doesn't support portrait mode, open something that has portrait mode support like the phone app (assuming it's not locked to landscape)

The statusbar menu is now almost perfect for me, there is still a bit of space lost in portrait mode, it is possible to make a status bar like the one in post #17 but with to also 2 supplementary lines in portrait mode ?

After installing, the status menu does not go portrait and all other application I need to apply ctrl+shift+r to make that specific application goes portrait. The problem is that it contacts for example goes portrait only once and then I need to apply ctrl+shift+r once more, etc. The applications seems now "memory less" for rotation.
