create an application that asks for a name (or the tablet owners real name, whatever) & a password - then generates Jabber, Mail, SIP, ITT...-accounts for the user and configures them on the tablet. would be two input fields and you're ready to go.
(of course it would be nice if this would come pre-installed, like skype. otherwise the inexperienced user would need to find out how to install software....)
Getting it pre-installed may be a hurdle, but you could start with having a one-click .install icon/file on your site homepage (so that new users don't have to figure out the App Manager in order to sign up).
Hm. So, you want Jabber, IMAP, and SIP in one package?
CommuniGate Pro does that, and has a 5 user free license (costs money after that), to get started with. www.communigate.com
Though ... I have to wonder ... if the core focus is Jabber and IMAP, why not just host it in "Google Apps for Your Domain"? Jabber via Google-Talk, IMAP via gmail.

Google Talk doesn't support the external IM gateways (most of the point of doing this to begin with), not all Gmail accounts are IMAP yet... but I don't want to rely on Google for stuff anyways. Kind of defeats the purpose, especially since there's nothing specific to the tablets.
This sounds like a good idea. I am new to the NIT and liking it alot. My wife already wants one of her own. I have never used jabber and did not understand the crossover between protocols. It would be helpful for other new users to have a site with explanation and easy to use services. If you need some help let me know. I would like to participate in the community also.
Ok, well, as I told zero it looks like I screwed up adding this to my 1and1 account. They don't look like they'll host jabber under that plan (I misunderstood the requirements). But at least I'm getting the domain registered and parked.
So, while I'm researching hosts, is anyone up for subletting their current hosts? I'd be more than willing to help you with cost if you could add 2 domains.
Either way, here's who I've found so far besides Dreamhost:
Hmmm... someone else says you can use the coupon code 50CHEAP to knock off the setup fee at Dreamhost on month-to-month accounts...
Whoa... someone else says DREAMKITTEN knocks off $90 at Dreamhost...
Final Edit: ok, the second promo turned out to be true: I got a year's hosting with Dreamhost for $29!
So we're set. I didn't transfer domains yet because it's still too early. However, there's a temporary dreamhosters subdomain (ldug.dreamholders.com). Later, I'll work out the transfer from 1and1.
