so this is a recent problem. It takes about 2 to 3 minutes for my n810 to boot up from battery (NOKIA splash page) but only 15 to 20secs to boot when charger is plugged in. I have tried to find the boot.log for trouble shooting but can not find it. I love to fix this issue without re-flashing. Any ideas??

I will wager that you're unlikely to get anyone paying attention to N8x0 issues anymore. Classic Nokia.

Try installing sysklogd (from here) and look at /var/log/syslog* for any hints. Standard disclaimer: you may want to uninstall it when you're done, as it can fill up your root filesystem if you forget about it.
I'm glad some of the classic ITT folks are still around. I couldn't think of anything at the time and just opined. It's good to see some good folks still helping out us N8x0 owners.

Just rebooted mine to see how long it takes:
lun nov 15 23:15:38 CET 2010 -> reboot command issued
lun nov 15 23:15:52 CET 2010 -> shut down finished, reboots
lun nov 15 23:16:25 CET 2010 -> lock dialog appears
lun nov 15 23:16:31 CET 2010 -> I finish typing the password number
lun nov 15 23:17:10 CET 2010 -> cpu becomes idle, booting fininshed
Not counting the shutdown and the time spent awaiting for me to type the password, the boot process took: 72 seconds.
Btw, I have disabled metalayer-crawler

It actually boots into act_dead (or something like that) mode when you connect charger. Then when you press powerbutton it only has to load the GUI.
It's probably starting the kernel and getting the root jffs2 filesystem mounted that's taking time. jffs2 is kinda notorious for long mount times.

So since I started this post I Reflashed the device and boot times are much quicker. But it has recently regressed to slow boots again. Thanks for the link to syslogd. I will install it and see whats going on.
