Hi,

tried , tried, tried hard
setting up ad-hoc wireless network
and there is no chance to connect maemo to TVersity server
as assigning statis IP addresses on both ends
disables ad-hoc network on running web browser or media streamer.
Any such application invokes network connection utility on Nokia maemo
saving the established ad-hoc network and trying to establish
non-DHPC link with local-link IP address.
Every such attempt, web browser or Media Streamer invoking network connection utility hangs up maemo and reboots OS.

Tommorrow I will buy AP + router to assign DHCP dynamic IP addresss to Nokia maemo on the fly.
Hope to succeed as my Nokia maemo can still connect to wifi open hotspots.

Thanks.

Darius

Yes, this is known problem. It is called PEBKAC. Sometimes there is no fix for this.

Using real AP is much better anyway, ad-hoc mode has no power saving features and drains battery really quickly.

Thanks.
Battery is no problem as I connect supply for a desktop tests.
Frankly speaking connecting to wifi hotspots woyld drain battery much faster as more power is consumed due to higher distance between Nokia maemo and Access Point.
Have yuu ever succeeded to establish ad-hoc peer-to-peer Nokia maemo - PC XP Windows wireless network working , having TVersity server streaming ?

Oh really? Any proof?

yes, except the streaming TVersity part (which is irrelevant here).

No way it would. There's an enormous difference in battery drain when the wi-fi can go into power saving mode (which it does all the time, invisibly and efficiently) compared to when it can't. Trust me on this.

Wifi lan cards can work at 10 mW or 100 mW output power.
To setup desktop ad-hoc network 10 mW is ok.
In both cases wifi is on but in my desktop application Nokia memo power supply is on all the time.

I am testing TVersity streaming quality and features on-line in ad-hoc wireless network environment.
