Hi Everyone,
The person selling me his N800 is telling me that he does not have a receipt and only gives the following information when asked for a serial number:

wlan: XXXXXXXXXXX
BT: 00194FDAF768
Code: 0631787
FCC ID: LJPRX-34
IC: 661E-RX34

Is he withholding the serial number? Are any of the above numbers a serial number? How can I find out if this is legit (and has warranty)?
He says that he was given the unit as being part of the Nokia marketing. He was profiled as "real-estate guru" but can't point out an image to me.
I will not buy stolen merchandise, and wanted to check with you guys first (otherwise, will buy new from a retailer).

Thanks!

Wow, are you guys serious? The guy came here to ask for help and you're going to save the serial number for your own purposes?

Brook don't worry about it, what can these guys do with your serial number??

Besides, if I'm not mistaken that's your MAC address for your WLAN (serves as the SN) so what can they do with a stranger's MAC address? Especially if they don't know you in real life.....

It's not like you can register this SN anywhere either

Thanks for all the people looking after me.

As it turns out, I did not buy the unit since when I contacted Nokia they said it was not made for USA and they could never service it.

Also, Nokia said that warranties do not transfer-- so please factor that in if you are considering buying one used (buyer beware-- you will be getting a unit as-is with no safety).

Thanks again for those who want to help!

(the other people remind me of others who saw the twin towers fall and their first thoughts were to ransack the area....)

The only actual use of a SN (WLMAN MAC address really) is you are asked for one when you want to download a new firmware image from the Nokia site. Saves taking out the battery to look up yours if you forgot to write it down... big deal :-)
