Good luck. I had a similar problem in Moscow and for a while I was paying $100 a week for Internet access.

Maybe someone here has a way around this.

One solution is to install Personal Data Monitor. But this app doesn't limit your 2G/3G connection, it is just info widget.

That's not the phone's fault. That's the website. Either way, your best bet is to install Opera Mobile and enable Opera Turbo in the settings pane. It compresses websites before sending them to the phone meaning less data used.

how about using facebrick? uses a lot less data as only downloads updates not full web pages.

or, try the mobile or touch sites.??

I use mobile sites when roaming off my carrier's data plan for this reason

http://m.facebook.com
http://mail.google.com/mail/x
http://mobile.twitter.com

Turn off all IM and VoIP, as well as MfE.

And remove widgets that update themselves.

Also very important to disable automatic updates check. It can use more than 3MB every day by itself.
