I am trying to update my firmware to 20.2010.36.2 but unfortunately I can't seem to do it via the phone. It says I must do it through the Nokia Software Updater.
The problem is that on the Nokia Software Updater it says that I will lose everything that is on my phone, and I do not want that to happen.
Isn't there a way to update without losing all the application and other info?
i had the same problem when trying to update to 1.2 i had to delete my brain party app as there was something in the app that affected the update, not sure what though. maybe one of your apps is doing the same. hope this helps.
The solution you are looking for will have already been covered in these forums, I don't know it off the top of my head and I'm not going to search for you, but if you search properly you should be able to find it.
If you know what you are doing, then by all means try and force it, and you should be able to get it done and work through the issues. I had to force it on mine, I used "apt-get" in the terminal rather than the app manager and it now works perfectly with PR1.3, though I did run into a few speed bumps along the way which would throw the novice user.
In short if you are willing to put some effort in you can do the update without flashing or using the NSU, but it will be quicker and easier to backup, run the NSU and then restore.
James is your best friend in this situation. If you OTA update or update it via some Nokia PC Suite, you'll be back on this forum in 3 days with crazy issues that no one can easily fix.
I updated via OTA from PR 1.0 to PR 1.1, PR 1.1.1, PR 1.2, and PR 1.3. Each time I had to make some extra space on the root partition and/or remove an app or two. It's not hard to get around the minor blocks that commonly prevent OTA updates.
Read the wiki page on how to free up root fs space, remove intense apps (like TuxRacer, GLTron and BrainParty) and try again. Often looking at the "Updating" tab in the App Manager will tell you what needs to be removed.
