  • N800 bought for testing - after 20 days, touchscreen failed. Sent it in. Was some sort of communication failure. Waited 10 days. Had it back - all done via the net. Bravo Nokia!
  • 2 4GB chips (all I could afford at the time) $100
  • Dell Branded ultrathin bluetooth HID<-(most important) keyboard $60
  • Car Charger and MP3 interface $30
  • Clearanced Zune case from Circuit City (not a good sign) $14 (disclaimer: I had to dremel a lot of the inner foam and then felt strangely compelled, like a kid in toughskins at a ritzy middleschool, to dremel off all the plastic branding as well)
  • Home-made mount (pretty decent functionalitywise, not beautiful, but not as embarrassing as having one of those weed-whacker mufflers (in progress))
  • Motorola E315, with firmware updates (had) (google it yourself) (don't be scared - it's legal to mess with your own phone; though you might run across some titties along the way)
  • Skype with In & Out, unique local phone number, voice mail ($90/ year)
  • Unlimited Data only - Verizon (mostly in EVDO, 1x at lake) - $49.99 (no phone number)
  1. Save all the wireless access points around town on the N800. (I'm in upstate NY so there aren't a lot, but being a computer repair plumber, usually I'm around them)
  2. Tell the N800 to pigtail the E315 as needed when out of Wifi range.
  3. With the car mount and internal mic you get decent hands free Skype
  4. Get one of the Mozilla based browsers so java works
  5. Clawsmail (domain gmail via IMAP, gmail via POP, .mac via IMAP)
  6. GPE PIM
  7. Erminig (free - synchs GPE calander with google calanders (including domain accts))
  8. Meamopad+

Bill was $70.00 (+taxes and crap) for Verizon, texting, basic internet browsing.
Bill is now $58.00 (+probably the same taxes and crap) for
  • Skype full phone service with 'visual messaging' (wishing for an app to link the camera to Skype though)
  • email access
  • IM - through I'm older so most of my friends don't get the point of IM
  • full web access
  • Movies
  • MP3s
  • Gmail and docs
  • Music
  • pictures (though the camera sucks)
  • games, comics, books.. whatever (actually I haven't found a good CBR CBZ reader - PM me suggestions - or should this be my first attempt at a port... hmmmm....)
  • close to fullsize keyboard access via bluetooth wherever there's a picnic bench (my customers would recognize this time as a strange recurring voidness of communication that happens periodically )
  • No one is after my firmware (except to improve it)
  • The community is nice
  • The info is there if you learn to search

Good for you. Pity that here in europe (well, in spain at least) there's no real unlimited data plan (again, yoigo has a good 1.5 eur a day plan, but coverage is not really good, and even where it is the speed is max 300kbps).

Have a look at FON , useful if there is a FON point where you need it , these can be found on FON Maps.

If you run a FON at home then access at all other FON spots is free!

Good Luck
