I don't know if mapping network drives is possible.

But luckily for me, my Lacie network drive has a built-in UPnP media server so all multimedia content on that drive can be streamed to my N800 over wi-fi. The content is also visible in the standard file manager.

I use Canola for streaming the content and it works quite fine.

I have nexstar lx, I dont believe theres a way to use it as a upnp server. Is there any way to flash the firmware on it to support upnp? This is driving me nuts

Try installing ORB server in your workstation, that whay you'll be able to stream any kind of media into your n800 + the option of transfering content throught the file manager.
Cheers!

I am big fan of Tversity. It doesn't seem to hog resources like orb.

Try searching the forums you'll find quite a few posts about both UPnP and drive shares. The answer is "yes" it's possible to mount windows shares in OS2007 via some work, and it's built in with the upcoming OS2008 release.
