    N900 - MfE & Nokia Messaging

Im trying to find a way to read my email on the N900 that is pushed or using imap. pop3 is just too annoying as I have to do double the work reading it twice and keeping track of things.

I never heard of mail for exchange but it seemed to be just what I needed, I set it up and at the final steps of syncing it always fails. I read that currently MfE is not working on the N900.

I then came across a 3rd party service that does all of this for you at a server level so your phone doesn't have too. Nokia Messaging but I have one huge problem here. The service works just as intended. Its delivering my Hotmail, and Gmail accounts to me live and letting me do the basic email work from my N900 but the issue is that 80% or so of my email is only partial mail. I get the first half or first 1/3 of the message and the rest is never there. Also for some reason it takes FOREVER to load mail sometimes in Nokia Messaging while my pop3 accounts I am using temporarily load right away.

So not sure if this problem is wide spread or not, I have seen it mentioned by one or two people but the vast majority seem to say "everything is fine"

So whats the final verdict on this? Is Nokia Messaging broken or working? is there any other method to get my mail like I need to right now other than to use the web browser?

It works but not with all the possible server setups around.

In my experience the most stable push-email solution at the moment is (gmail) + nuevasync + mfe. Works as expected, for 25$/year, and also does contacts+calendar sync.

Nokia Messaging (just mail ofc.) is sometimes faster, sometimes doesn't work at all, and my biggest issue is that you have all you accounts UNDER a general Nokia Messaging folder in modest, so when you receive an e-mail, you have no ideea in which folder/account you can find it.

It's a pity, beacuse otherwise NM is the fastest solution, and on their interface you can select which folders to sync, and it's also free.

Thanks THavoc will check out nuevasync, not willing to pay $25 right now, on a super tight budget but read your other post about how contacts and calender are free, so thats a start and I have high hopes that Nokia will have a native working solution soon, if not from them then from one of our creative developers.

Got it working, the built in gmail setting seems to work well, before I had it setup via a custom server isntead of the prefab gmail. It was operating as POP3 but now I think its IMAP.

Nuevasync is taking care of the calender, though it synced a shared calender that totally spammed me up now after deleting that off my gmail calender it has not done the same on the N900. Tried to update/refresh it to no avail so may need to find a way to delete the calender.

On 31-Dec-2010, there was a pleasant surprise for me; my N900 started working with Mail for Exchange. May be it is because of recent couple of updates like 'Pidgin Protocols plugin for Conversations and Contacts' or so, or my admin must have applied some patches to the exchange server, honestly I am not sure. My N900 started syschronizing with my corporate Exchange Server 2003 when I tried today, all mails, taks, contacts, calendar synchronized flawless. Hopefully this message will help some one to try setting up the Mail for Exchange. This was the only feature I was missing in my N900 until today, Now I am very happy
