N900 can almost do any thing. I was wondering if there was some kind of software to automatically open camera lid. It would be great if there was one.

there is none and probably wont be one. its similar to asking if there is any software that will slide the keyboard itself or the battery door can be opened by the software....

Welcome to the forums

There is no software to open the camera slider, as there is no automated mechanism or motors built in to the back of the handset.

Sorry

Unless you invent some magical way that bits being flipped within a processor can create psychokinetic movement of matter, it's not doable. Software is just electronic signals. It can't move objects unless that object is a piece of hardware that is built to respond to electronic signals. The camera lid doesn't have any hardware that can move it. It has a sensor that lets it send back signals as to whether it's closed or open, but it doesn't have actual moving parts that can produce their own force.

- Edit -

I see 2-3 people already beat me to it.

LOL

@Haider : Well the Lid works on a manual slider .. there's no particular mechanism to actually Open it through commands ... Unless we get some extra external geeky hardware inserted to do so .

But Ay ? It's just a matter of sliding with your finger tips ... I don't think you really need a software for that xD
