Umm. New dual-core CPUs may use much less power than N900's 600Mhz single core CPU. Just like curent Intel Core i5 quad core CPUs using far less power than older single core Pentium4 CPUs.

Have you guys even read nVidia's claim of it able to play over 16 hours of HD video on a single battery charge? (I'm assuming they are talking about tablets with bigger batteries most likely but still very impressive)

dual core processors are useless. should be one core with more power - thats WAY better than any dual-core.. its just marketing-********, just useless ****

I don't get it - a dual-core CPU on a device which is running Android? Isn't that a total waste? Can Android really correctly utilize a dual-core CPU at all?
And even if it does - what good will it make?

sry but you are talking pointless crap.dual core cpus are far better in any point then single core cpus.ike jakiman said a 1ghz dual core cpu(2ghz)can take less energy then our single core 600mhz one,if the software is optimized for it.

Also I notice the A9 is out-of-order execution, that in itself makes its more efficient I believe.

I do not understand it exactly but its something along the lines of being able choose which command to execute next out of the queue (for efficiency) rather than being force to do them in the exact order they are in the queue.

Also lets not forget that with good power management and two cores it can always disable one core entirely if not needed, or clock them both down to insanely low speeds. I would think that with two cores it should make the process of switching from low to high speed a lot smoother to the end user, as any sudden need for CPU cycles is not going to bog down the CPU as badly.

Of course this is all assuming that they are improving the flash memory in the phones as well. It always seems to be IO that is the big problem as the flash in phones is barely any better than SD cards, a long way away from the speed SSDs or even HDDs can do. You can't help thinking they are deliberately holding back so they can sell us the next big thing every 12 months.

    Exactly.
The only mobile OS's that would benefit substantially from going A8 to dual-A9 is MeeGo.
I'm sure iOS will be next (perhaps with the iPad2).

The rest of the followers really need some major groundwork:
RIM (dead), WP7 (needs to catchup faster), WebOS (needs to start innovating), Android Honeycomb (needs some major revisions to get hardware accelaration).

Images of a rocket sled in a mud pit,
real potential stuck in the mud of a java-script maze.

That's right and swapping in MeeGo, is like placing the rocket sled on a pebble-paved road. It's not the smoothest but a lot better than the mud!

By the way, I was about to Thank You.
Then I realized I would be thanking a carcass, since you've been roundhouse kicked to death before I could finish reading.
    Good one, Chuck!
