    Hey,

I've made & collected various icons which look very smooth in use with maemo-mapper.

    check it out here:
1.) overall replacement for the purple squares

    - at first you have to rename the choosen image to poi.jpg, although it is a png file maemo-mapper requires that.
the location where the image has to be copied to depends on the location of your poi database.
e.g we suggest that it is stored in /media/mmc1/maps/poi.db then the correct location is /media/mmc1/maps/poi.jpg

    in other words: <pathofyourpoidb>/poi.jpg

    2.) poi category replacement

    - at first you have to rename the choosen image to poi.jpg, although it is a png file maemo-mapper requires that.
if you wish just to replace the icon for a specifiy poi category, the location the image has to be copied to
depends on your location of your poi database and on the label of the specific category.
e.g. we suggest that is is stored in /media/mmc1/maps/poi.db and the name of your category is 'others' then the correct location is /media/mmc1/maps/others.jpg

    in other words: <pathofyourpoidb>/<nameofyourcategory>.jpg

i made 2 screenshots for showing you how this can look like:

@gnuite: How about include this and make a version 2.0.1 ?
@loki: is it ok for you?

sure, but to include it by default is also a matter of copyright. but this shouldn't be the problem because nearly all are under Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike license.

I am using it with MM in 2.2... but it worked in every 2.x version since 2.02 (i guess). So, I suggest to recheck all steps for errors...

Why not make this icon set a default thing in Maemo Mapper instead of squares? Squares are really looking dumb

Does this still work in Maemo Mapper 2.4.1? I have tried to get it to work, I have my poi.db and poi.jpg in the same location as in the first post but the squares remain. I tried it first with a specific category, then tried the overall replacement, but no luck.

Hmm does this mean we could have a seperate icon per POI category?
