Every phone I've ever used has had a notification of whether text input is set to capitals, lower-case or (more recently) first letter capital, or numbers.

I was shocked, surprised and startled to find this doesn't appear on the N900.

Is there a setting or a status area plugin that will give me this notification?

Different programs respect or don't respect the universal settings in different ways, and some of them just plain make up their own mind which text entry field is going to be which. It would be nice to know before typing what I was going to be typing.
