For setting up media sharing on windows vista

You cant yet share FROM N900 TO PC since the N900 does not work as a UPNP Media Server. Though someone might make an app for that.
To share items between network machines you can use ftp client servers. Again based on apps. Sharing a drive on a network wont work probably since the N900 is not samba enabled.

I just read this thread and all I had to do was to let "automatically allow devices to play my media..." in WMP 11. After that it'll show videos, music, pics, etc once you tap on your computers in name in n900 media player and you can simply stream whatever you want. Pretty straightforward imo. Hope that helped.
