i think working on both wont do much harm and once a driver has been found, porting it to another os isnt much of a big issue..

It's not the nitdroid team's fault you can't make phonecalls yet. The ability to make calls on the n900 is behind a proprietory application and no source code is available to make it work.

The only option is to wait until the ofono project reaches a mature state where making calls and texting(?) is reliable on the n900.

I believe members of the MeeGo project are working on ofono so you can either wait until it works or if you have some programming skill contribute to the ofono project yourselves.

One question! Is it possible to divert calls when using this? So that if i was to get a call it's diverted to my wifes number or any other usable phone? That would be a quick fix at the moment... I think?

    Didnt try Nitdroid in awhile...

My understanding is that it is not a problem with ofono. Calling works (you can make and receive calls and use data)! The problem is with the sound (microphone). It wasn't very long ago that you couldn't use voice search.

I believe that the issue is that maemo uses pulseaudio and android uses alsa. Once the issues there get worked out (ie the microphone works), then calling will "work".

That wouldn't matter when you're booting into different OS's though. And that doesn't explain why texts don't work. I may be wrong though. Pulseaudio is something I've always somehow managed to break. I love my ALSA.
