Hi all,

I recently purchased the N800 and like the convenience. However, even after pairing my bluetooth headset I still cannot make it work with skype for making calls. I have tried both skype's forum and Nokia's but no information was provided. Am I missing something. I do not want to use Gtalk or Jabber to make calls. I have tried to view skype's settings and I couldn't locate an option to choose any other device. I can make calls using skype and nokia's speaker/mic fine. I'd prefer headset for privacy and civility while in a cafe.

Also, is there a way to use the bluetooth headset for audio streaming for radio and so forth as well.

Would greatly appreciate your help. Ooops almost forgot I purchased a 2 gb microcard with adapter and placed in the slot under the stand. Now it won't come out. Is there like a push release button. All I get is micro card out and the adapter is still in it.

Thanks for your assistance.

Bluetooth headsets are not supported with the current N800 OS. (OS2007) It has been added to OS2008 though which will be released soon for download.

As for your card, you'll have to find something (tip of a pen?) to push the adaptor in a bit. It's sort of a little spring loaded release thing.

Thank you for your reply. So if the bluetooth headset are not supported so why even have the abilty to pair one? Can the bluetooth headset be used for anything?

Many of us are anxiously awaiting bluetooth headset support. I am not optimistic that when it arrives it will integrate with the Skype client until there is an N800 Skype client update to go along with OS2008. The new OS will permit listening to music and movie audio via bluetooth, which is a good thing.

As for the SD card, I had / have the same problem. My removable card slot has no spring in it, which is a disappointment. My N800 SD card does not pop-out / eject like so many other portable devices SD cards do. Is my N800's SD slot missing it's spring? is it defective?

I placed a small patch of adhesive tape to my 2Gig micro SD card adapter to help me extract it from the N800 when needed. The tape acts as a tab / flag that I can grab onto and pull. I fold the tape in prior to closing the N800 slot door. Other than that you will need tweezers or tiny needle nose pliers to pull your card adpater out.

I have two Bluetooth headsets, they are both mono. One is an IOGear the other is a Motorola. The Motorola headset has a second BT service in addition to the audio service, that service is "file transfer". After thinking it over I understand why a bluetooth headset might have file transfer as well as audio service, probably to flash the headsets firmware.

The Nokia N800 will pair with any bluetooth device willing to pair with it. I imagine I could flash my BT audio headsets firmware using the N800 using file transfer service, so there is one reason to allow the pairing, even though the N800 is currently unable to pipe audio (music) to the headset.

As I stated in an earlier post, I doubt that N800 OS2008 will do anything to facilitate Skype's bluetoothing ( I hope I am wrong). I think the people at Skype (not Nokia) are going to have to revise Skype for the N800 to enable bluetooth with Skype on the N800. Either that or Penguinbait will come to our rescue and do it for us. :-)

This is awesome. Thank you so much for your responses. It is a shame I can't use a bluetooth headset for skype. There is no privacy otherwise. Does anyone know if a wired headset with mic (like the ones used with cell phones) would work? Thanks.

Have you tried the headphones that came with the N800? They have built in mic.

The wired handsfree set that came with the n800 works with Skype. There is a tiny pushbutton switch in the cord which permits you to answer incoming Skype calls with out the need to touch the N800. That cube that houses the pushbutton also houses the microphone.

EDIT: More testing reveals that this pushbutton in the cord only answers incoming skype calls when the Skype application is maximized. If Skype is running but minimized, the pushbutton closure is ignored :-( A cool discovery is that while listening to music (with Kagu) and a Skype call comes in, the music pauses (it doesn't simply mute, it automatically pauses) allowing you to answer the Skype call (by pressing the home button and selecting Skype on the touchscreen). When the Skype call concludes, the music automatically resumes playing from where it paused. NICE.

A work around (sort of) is to get Kagu playing some music, then switch Kagu to the background, and Skype to the foreground (for lack of a better term). Leave Skype maximized (with music playing) and then the button on the corded headset WILL answer Skype calls without touching the N800 unit.

I don't recommend you try this with Mplayer running a video, there isn't sufficient CPU power to accomplish that.

I'm not complaining, just reporting my observations.

Strangely if I'm crunching numbers using Free42 ( the RPN Calculator app ) and Free42 is on the screen (Skype is in the background, and so is Kagu playing music) and a Skype calls rings in, the pushbutton on the corded headset will sometimes answer the Skype call, even though Free42 is on the screen, furthermore- Kagu still pauses automatically when the incoming Skype call occurs while the calculator app is still on the screen...interesting. For the most reliable means to have the pushbutton on the N800 corded headset answer an incoming Skype call, have Skype on the N800 screen.
