Unfortunately the title does not say it all. Can you give more information? Presumably you are using the Application Manager, does it give any error messages? What are the details of the Claws Mail repository you have? Are you able to run apt-get as root and try installing, uninstalling or updating from there - it often gives more meaningful information than the graphical Application Manager, (and works much better). Please, more information needed!

You are correct I do need to give you more information....
I installed version 3.0.2.1 from the application manager the application status says"broken" when I try to uninstall from the application manager my error message says "unable to uninstall claws-mail" if memory serves me correctly (and i am getting older- not necessarily wiser) I downloaded it from the link at maemo.org

running apt-get update from the command line gives me gpg errors for the following repositories: maemo.hackers.org bora, catalogue.tableteer.nokia.com bora

also "E:Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (11 Resource temporarily unavailable)
E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), is another process using it?

I am a newbie and in all likelihood screwed something up...

You can ignore the gpg warnings for the purposes of sorting out this Claws Mail problem (probably you are missing the keys in the apt key ring).
You probably got these other errors, 'E:Could not get lock ...' because you did not quit the Application Manager before running apt-get.

Try the following command in xterm, as root:

apt-get install claws-mail

If you have any problems with that, then paste apt-get's output here.

/home/user # apt-get install claws-mail
E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
/home/user # dpkg --configure -a
dpkg: failed to open package info file `/var/lib/dpkg/updates/0011' for reading: Input/output error
/home/user #

Move the file `/var/lib/dpkg/updates/011` out of the way.
Then do 'dpkg --configure -a' and everything should be fine.
