Broken USB / How to backup etc

After 8 months use I have now broken USB on my N900. Before I send it to repair centre, I need to back up my phone. I have already backuped with original backup, but I will try to backup everything myself too.

I downloaded two filemanagers: Cute Explorer and case. They can handle all directories, but I don't see my memory card (or my wireless WD hard drive World edition), original file manager works for that. What's the right path for memory card (or network drive) ? Or can I use some shell command like in dos copy *.* /s/e/h <my target> ? Also, if I remember right, there's some image backup tool ? Should I use it ?

And last, is it safe to remove power kernel with it's own de-install ?

You should install BackupMenu, perform a backup of rootfs and opts, then SCP it over to your desktop.

Send in for repair, when it returns, copy the tarballs back over, install BackupMenu and you're exactly where you left off before you sent it in.

    Exactly.

Run ssh and use Filezilla to get into your phone in a "ftp-way".

Thanks for all! I tried OpenSSH and it worked! Also I will try BackupMenu later!

And I got my RMA-number from my reseller so I hope that someone will fix it.

I've read most people have been sent a new phone instead.
The ribbon for the monitor on my last phone either got detached or damaged, relatively easy to repair, and they sent me a new one.
