Whitestork: [dictionaries] Nice layout; I find it a little slow sometimes.

SDict is also very nice to use and fast.[dictionaries]

I highly recommend StarDict; it is very fast and (optionally) automatically pops up a translation etc, when you highlight a word in an application on the n800.[browser, FBReader...etc] [dictionaries] There is also a command line and lighter GUI version for it called sdcv

[PS: according to their forums FBReader themselves might be coming out with a dictionary]

ichmoimeyo, thanks for that information I have been looking for a dictionary that links directly to FBReader and didn't appreciate that StarDictl has that feature.

Purely for reference, here are some links to opensource dictionary resources which may work with these dictionary apps.

http://bedic.sourceforge.net/dict-li...word-lang.html
http://freedict.org/en/
http://sourceforge.net/project/showf...id=51673#files

And of course the downloadable Wikipedia files should be accessible too.

Thanks for the links, Rebski, I will take a look at which ones can be converted for StarDict using their creation/conversion tools.

Here are a couple of screenshots of StarDict , with auto 'scan' option turned on, interacting with FBReader and Google News

ichmoimeyo, thanks for posting the screenshot. That looks very cool, my previous experience of this feature was on the Zaurus which involved the dictionary app loading in a separate screen and toggling back and forth.

The StarDict pop up is very neat and unobtrusive. I shall check it out very shortly.
