Of the OS choices, WM7 wouldn't be that bad to me as an alternative. I am sure it can be done, the Xda-developers have been making these things happen for years. Sure in time given the opportunity someone will try it.

Even though it wasn't the best phone i used to love my Omnia running WM6.5 and used to always flash to new roms via Xda.
The question is CAN WinMo7 run on N900 hardware?!
Not If you want it...will it happen..whats you thin of MS...bal bla bla
Can it be done? if not why not? and dont say stupid $h!t like it needs 3 buttons can the kernel/OS run on the n900 ARM hardware? I'm/we are not asking you to do it..but can it be done?
Wp7 would be the last thing i would move to. Anyone here has a windows phone? I have a Htc HD7, and i am totally NOT impressed by the Os. Sure it is nice to have an alternative, but i wouldnt want it.
Maemo is just too superior to me. IOS, Android, whatever you say, i have used all of them and they get boring after a while, and playing games on it is just to childish...at least for maemo users, trust me ps3 is much better.
For 2011, i wish i could have a modern Maemo tablet.
There are no suitable drivers for the GPU, cellular modem, WLAN and a multitude of other devices present in N900, and Windows Phone 7 OS is developed with a DX9-compatible GPU in mind which N900 does not sport anyways.
EDIT: I forgot to mention that it's aimed for multitouch screens which N900 lacks. I don't know how much that would hinder actual usage, but it would most likely atleast pose some rather annoying situations if not completely ruin the usage.

I don't see what WP7 is good for, personally - I don't use Facebook, or (much) in the way of IM - IRC is my only real real-time communication method. I -require- copy&paste, a terminal, a good webbrowser and extensive multitasking. WP7 doesn't do -any- of that.
