Here is the announcement:

I don't know about an N8x0 version, but it seems that it often lags slightly behind the full Linux version.

YES! This is awesome! No more fiddling with wine to try and get video for skype. Thank you.

Well, lately I've been using my N800 as a skype-phone. If they do get video for skype to it... wow. It'd be perfect.

You're right. This is great news! The Skype web site said the beta was for experienced users. I've had my N800 about three weeks. <g>

Well I did read that in a thread as a response from Skype. However, if OS2008 supports jingle-video over XMPP and H.263 video over SIP then they better come up with a better excuse

Are those encrypted streams? Because I believe Skype is, and that would be a serious CPU load to keep up with.

Good question. From the Skype FAQ, the Linux version (video-less) requires a 400 MHz CPU but the Mac version (with video) bumps it up to 800 . Uh oh.

I wonder if they haven't done some optimizing in the 2.0 series. Even with video (which works wonderfully with my creative notebook cam), it feels much zippier than the 1.4 series with audio only. I'm using OpenSUSE 10.2.
