Current stable public release is 1.3; however skype video is still buggy and highly depends on the other end's client version... means windows 7 latest skype (4.x) client to n900 was working fine with 1.2 already. if you are not able to upgrade to 1.3 via hildon-application-manager you may flash your rootfs with the latest like described here http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_tablet_firmware

My N900 Skype Video to Windows Skype clients (4.x) still works fine.
However, my Brother and his Skype client on the iPhone, while recognizing that a video call is an available option to the me on the N900, can't make a video connection. On the iPhone it looks like the video call is going through when he's dialing me, but once I answer his iPhone screen reverts to how it would look if in a non-video Skype call (with the video button grayed out).
When I try to Skype video call him, video calling is recognized as an available option on my N900, but when he answers all I see if my thumbnail of myself transmitting and I can never receive video from his iPhone (he in turn sees no video at all).
All in all, I think Skype had to invoke some dark voodoo to make video calling work on the inferior iOS devices. This voodoo allows them to video chat desktop clients and other iOS devices, but the N900 befuddles them.

Is the same for me. I can videocall everybody but non Mac computers or iOS devices.

its more that there isnt even the option to video call,
in contacts with my skype contacts there is the option to ring or IM them but not to video call, it seems that that feature isn't even available..
i know i have the lastest version of maemo 5: 20.2010.36-2.205.1
but does that necessarily mean i have the latest PR version (whatever PR stands for!)
and if i reflash my n900 will i lose everything?

Problem is with the implementation of video calling on N900, I think. Because video calling doesn't work between skype on N900 and skype on Linux either.
Skype Video on iPhone, Desktop Linux and Windows works well in all combinations. However Video for Skype on N900 only works with Skype on Windows.

ive got an n900 and i have the latest version of maemo 5,
i cant however do video calls on skype, why is this?
ive read lots of blogs saying that there was an update sometime last year to allow this feature so why does my phone not have it when according to nokia i have the latest version of maemo 5? and how can i get it?
ive already got the PR 1.2 .bin file from maemo(dot)org saved to my phone but its just in the documents folder and i dont know what to do with it! any help would be great!
