Hello everyone,
I'm a new n900 owner and having some huge problems with flashing my device. I assure you that I have read many topics and guides including the most obvious one: http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_t...MC_in_the_N900. The problem is I'm a second owner of this Nokia and the previous one has installed so much stuff (he didn't bother to reflash himself) the phone is not working as it's supposed to and by that I don't mean it's necessary bricked I guess it's just makes it more user unfriendly.

So yeah I don't know how to make it possibly short and comprehensible. So the application manager is not working, I can't uninstall nor install new packages, there are some dependencies errors and "apt-get -f install" doesn't work either. Yeah, but why does it even matter when I simply want to reflash all? Well, I think he has installed some bootloaders which just prevent the phone from booting into flashing mode. I tried to flash the eMMC, followed all the steps up to the msg (not the exact log, pasted from the guide):

Code:
USB device found found at bus 002, device address 013.
Found device RX-51, hardware revision 2101
NOLO version 1.4.14
Version of 'sw-release': RX-51_2009SE_20.2010.36-2_PR_MR0
Booting device into flash mode.
Suitable USB device not found, waiting.
And at that point some Backup Menu boots, so I google wth is this, found this topic http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=62031 so I have decided to just delete the bootloader.d folder, with no backup (yeah feel free to flame). Was hoping everything would work just fine right now but now the phone boots into some BOOT MENU with the following options: Internal flash, Internal MMC cart partition 2 ext etc. (hope you get the idea).

Edit: Don't know if I was clear enough, so a small update - the boot menu shows when I try to reflash the phone, otherwise maemo 5 is working with no problems.

I'm pretty sure that I have done something very stupid, flame me as much as you want but at the same time please help. I'm obviously a linux noob but I'm willing to learn, that's the reason why I've bought this device in the first place but this problem is just too much for me to handle.

Nah, I say don't delete. It's a good description of why people selling their N900s used are dicks if they don't think to fix their messes before selling.

Maybe it'll inspire a couple of such people to actually reflash their device first before selling.

Word of advice though: Reflash FIASCO image first. Don't touch the eMMC unless necessary (in this case it probably was, but if you're reflashing eMMC, do it right after (without booting the N900 at all) a FIASCO image reflash.
