I did some searching and could not find anything on this topic. I want to know if it is currently possible to make the top taskbar hide up when on desktop view. Kind of like in Windows when you can set the taskbar to hide and then pop up when you move the mouse cursor over it. Is it possible to have a similar thing where either by tapping the screen or some other gesture cause the task bar to hide up and then pop back down when the screen is tapped or other gesture done again?

There's no such feature at the moment, but the source code for the desktop is open, so theoretically a whizzy programmer could do such a mod. Of course, you can't do hover gestures on a touchscreen, but I guess you could make it appear if you tapped in the top area.

Personally I prefer it there all the time, though...

That would help make it easier for a full QBW portrait desktop

Firefox does this in a nice way - swipe the toolbar down, swipe it back up out of the way again...

Yeah! I think that is exactly the type setup I would like to see.

An slightly hacky way to do that, i imagine, would be to make the desktop work like a regular program, like many games, running fullscreen rendering just the desktop itself, and under certain conditions exit fullscreen mode and revert to "windowed" mode with the statusbar on top.
