    Noob question: EPOC emulator

    All,

Read the post in http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...5&postcount=42 which provides link to a emulation for the EPOC. Is it possible to modify(or use that as a base) to make an emulator for N900?

    Cheers,

    "There is no emulator

There's no emulator available. I suppose it's no shock that the nokia emulator for windows doesn't run on Mac OS X. In fact, it doesn't run on wine either [edit:I believe it does if you use the opl version and not the java sdk version]. Is that really such a bad thing? It depends. The "emulator" is actually NOT an emulator, it's a simulator. It doesn't actually emulate the ARM instruction set. Instead, they have effectively ported the entire Symbian / Series 60 API to windows. You build a windows binary file, which links against the ported libraries. "

I think the simulator in the opoc sdk is opoc.exe

    Sooo...

    *COUGH*

Actually it does run under wine, I just checked it. The article was from 2005 and a lot has changed since then.

It does not change the fact that it is compiled for windows so still no go for an EPOC simulator on N900..

Random aside: An OPO/APP interpreter would be interesting, especially since the OPL runtime was open-sourced quite a long time back.

Would require hacking through that Symbian C++ dialect and hooking up UI (and other) bindings mind you.
