Umm... I don't have any contract. And I want my N900 to last forever - at least until something better* is available. I'm not a fortune teller, but I guess this will be a very long time.

*) In my case "better" means something in between what the N900 is currently and a phone that is 100% open source running Debian natively - ideally with the required additional software (phone, sms, a working hildon-desktop) in the Debian main repository.

Thanks for all the replies. I uninstalled it because of the possible glitches the kernel could've added to my system. One example was the multitask screen which looked a bit dodgy.

All this aside, I might go back to using anywhere near the 900Mhz mark soon.

Final question, is there any advantage to customising the kernel-config?

well nothing lasts forever! but the overheating itself will shorten the processer's lifespan, i doubt the processer will be the first thing to go even with an overclocked device, but if "forever" is what you want i'd probably avoid overclocking (just fyi, apparently nokia underclocked the processer from a recommended 800mhz to 600mhz, why? i dont know.)
