i will most likely end up on a N9, or whatever the new meego device is...but if it is too dumbed down to accomodate the android and iphoney users, will end up back on my n900.

i really look forward to see what the meego tablets will bring...

seems like nokia is going to get a couple thousand out of me again!

Actually there are quite a lot of Meego tablet PCs for sales. The most famous of them is nPad, not because of the fact that it's being first announced, but famous for being first sued by Apple for trademark infringement. However, they aren't worrying too much as nPad is just a flagship product for attracting OEM contracts, so you'd expect the same product chopped with different brand name reemerged later.

i'll be going android nokia provides no software support at all the n900 is a powerful phone but its lifespan was a waste nokia depended way to much on the community.I wont be going apple I hate their products and I had two iphones 2g and 3g both developed dead spots plus their very overrated I cant see myself with a phone that everyone else has which was one of the n900 pros no1 else had one.I dont like the windows 7 phones currently out So i'm going android plenty of support and great phones like the evo 4g,xperia play and galaxy S

I'll be going with android without a doubt. My other half got the HTC desire HD at the weekend, and I must say I'm mighty jealous of the OS.

I'll probably get a HTC thunderbolt or see what else is around at the time.

My main reasons are the android OS is just so slick and fast compared to the N900, and the massive amount of apps are really a big bonus. Wherever you go online these days I always seem to see 'download our iphone/android app' and I just wish I could use a lot of those apps. Also the size of the phone is another point, I'd quite like a slimmer model!

Everything I setup on the various android devices I've used has just worked straight away with a nice UI and no fuss. I know the N900 is more of a developers phone, and I knew that when I bought it, but I simply don't have the time to be tweaking lots of little things just to get apps to work etc, and the quality of N900 apps vs iphone/android apps is a different league. I respect the maemo community for doing such great things with the N900, but when you have to go to a forum each time you want to do something, it's a bit of a pain in the ***.

so that's my 2 cents! :-)

I did never want to buy a smart phone.
My phone was always the cheapest one.
(My mother needs my care.)

I wanted a little linux computer that's always with me.

Therefore I bought the n900.

I'm very happy with it.
I would like that this was my last phone.
But I know that it will die one day.

Hopefully the n900 will still exist when this one rests in peace.

Perhaps I'll buy again a n900.

I like maemo more and more.

Before I bought my N900 I played a bit with Android, but this system is so locked that I decided against the HTC Desire Z and for the N900.
I had my last mobile for almost 10 years and I'm going to stay with the N900 for the same time if there aren't any other open phones.

Is Android really an alternative. Closed vs open.

I choose Meego and the hardware platform (N9?) that will come on the market sometime this year.
In the mean time I'll stick with my N900.

No, Android is no alternative if openness is a criterion for you.
On Android you can only get root privileges via exploits and even if you manage to do that it's hard to modify the system since there is no free space left on the /system partition, which makes loading additional kernel modules impossible. You'd have to redesign the entire file system table.
Sure you can install a custom firmware like Gingerbread which has all that done for you but that doesn't change the fact that you bought and therefore supported a closed platform in the first place.
