Exactly what I was thinking...

It could be used with any image, you could even have multiple layers so at regular intervals your wallpaper images could change, each with different info overlaid... I think my head just exploded

Well, I've got so far with making the change but I'm stuck on what images I should remove from the themes folders. The background is in place but the default slider and ball is still there.

I've got the osso-system-lock.mo in a folder in documents ready to go back (I hope). Is there any way to view the .mo file after the edit just to make sure the edit has worked?

In your /usr/share/themes/name_of_used_theme/images folder, you should remove all the LockSlider*.png files (6 of them).

The best method would be to replace them with empty transparent images so that they don't show on your lock screen but the phone can still find them. This prevents you from getting warnings in the Terminal when you start certain apps (e.g.leafpad) directly from the Terminal. I don't know if these warnings get logged somewhere and take up disk space but anyway this would be the safe solution.

I want a completely blank canvas and design my own portrait home screen.

Something's not behaving itself. I've tried 2 different themes and still can't get rid of the slider.

But I have found a quick and easy way to replace the actual background image, for anyone who's not too keen on messing with their system folders via Filebox.

Theme Customizer will actually let you change the lock-screen with whatever you want from your image gallery, doesn't have to be a .png file either.

Now wondering if it would be possible to acyually implement this whole procedure via Theme Customizer

I want to get rid of the default time and date so that I can use my own custom date layout. The design is btw a copy of the typophone lock screen for iPhone

I also still need to extract the actual date from the phone and make them into strings but I guess that should be easy enough by, e.g., using the date command. So far the text is just hardcoded.

This is all done with one ImageMagick command followed by a copy of the generated image to the right theme folder. Alarmed app could then be used to execute a script with those commands daily at midnight.

So anyone have any ideas on how to get rid of the default time and date? If it is possible I will probably change this to portrait instead.

Wow, I was quite literally surprised by the amount of information of this component in this thread. However, even though I know a bit of Terminal, I can't consider in any way myself doing all this customization.

Maybe an application for end-users is required? Someone want to pick that challenge up, if not picked up yet?

An easy way to change the lockscreen background, if you don't like tinkering in X-term or using Filebox, is to install Theme Customizer. That allows you to change the App Manager, MediPlayer and lockscreen backgrounds.
