I never delete anything, and thanks to SCOUT, it's so easy to go back into really old texts to find info. But the counter on the Conversations widget says I have over 3000 texts.

Are they taking up much memory?

Does it slow things down any?

Am I a 14 year old girl who starts every sentence with "Like..." ?

I have found that if I keep too many texts, it takes longer to load and sometimes it hangs, I usually clear about once a month,

though i send about 1500-2000 texts per month so that quickly adds up.

keeping alot of anything on emmc will slow the n900 down thanks to the !@%$&^#@^*^ tracker

I've got over 4600 messages and haven't noticed any significant slow downs.

I have almost 3000 SMS and more than 10000 IM and I don't notice any particular slowdown.

I had to completely erradicate my Conversations history database recently because it started doing that glitching thing where nothing gets saved. The end result was my phone was about 2500 messages lighter, but still performed about the same. So I would say, while the complaint about tracker can be an issue (you can just disable tracker if you really have problems with it), I've never noticed a difference between having a conversations database of one message vs. 2000.

Also, doesn't tracker just check files? The database stores all messages within itself as one item... So tracker should just see the file and move on the moment it sees it's not one of the files it 'tracks', regardless of quantity of messages in the database, would be my guess.

Good to know, thanks. My previous E75 gave me the option to save SMS to the SDcard or the phone - I guess it doesn't matter with such a huge internal mass memory, right?
