I had a similar issue with rss. after i deleted the config files the app ran again.
you might try to delete the prefs in
/home/user/.modest/
make a bakup before you do it.

Hmm... Haven't you done anything related to gcc? It can be using Debian repos in your sources.list file...
It can be downloading the newer version...
I had this problem with Calendar...

I have seen other people having this issue and I have tried their fix.. nothing has fixed mine.
This started after I installed Facebook plugins... since then I have removed all facebook apps. reinstalled kernel (I think the right one).
Not sure how continue to troubleshoot this.
Where is the error logs?
Is there anyway I can reinstall the email client (Modest .. I think thats what its called)?
