No, you obviously still didn't get it. Pinout IS NOT electrical specs. We've seen supposedly drop in compatible chips that had the same pinout, but the EE in duty almost missed that particular bus wasn't 3.3V but 1.8V on the allegedly compatible chip.

Maybe because "came out" as you use it, is NOT identical to "actually sourceable" as the factory is using the term when talking about availability. Most chips are vaporware and chip manufs will start to produce real quantities only after signing a deal with a major customer that asks for >>500k units, So even Nokia, for the N900, had to make do with whatever left over at TI's fab line, from somebody else buying real quantities of same chip. And when N900 development started, I'm absolutely sure there's been no 3630 available in quantities like needed for N900.

ok, enough of "fun" for today, leaving this thread as it's highly unproductive
cheers

I read what you said and to be honest IF i had the 3630 in my hands, just for the hell of it i would try it but i guess they would be pretty damm hard to get hold of, i say that because i am an adventurer in electronics and love a bit of fun and games.

Problem is i dont think anyone even knows who i am or anything about me but i can tell you one thing... if i even posted on here some of the things i have been upto in this crazy world, people like tswindell and his bussom pals would simply shut up and not bother me !.

Maybe i will let loose one day and tell you a little story aha now that would be fun !!!.

So wish this was possible, maybe you should email OMAP see what they think, then nobody can complain?

It's pointless. Everyone that has even the slightest common sense agrees. I think the only one that has said it's possible and easy is abill_uk, so, erm, by all means do as he says

without checking the datasheets for both of the chips quite carefully we cannot say either way.

If the footprints are the same, they are of the same family, they have the same pin-out, they opperate at the same supply voltages AND the HW designer didnt do anything hackish then i'd imagine yes. Yes they can be swapped.

As for doing it at home, abill is right. All you need is a hot air gun and some thermo masking. (I sure as hell wouldnt want to do it at home though!)

There are a lot of very loud over oppiniatedhaterz on this website along with the irc room. Until somone points out a major flaw (i.e. vdd is 1.8 as oppose to 3.3) then yes.
