hello,

i have the problem that the left speaker suddenly stopped working. Anybody ever had this? The headphone jack is function normally

Now at the moment my N900 is in repair. It is still under waarenty. But i hate it that Nokia Care will reflash the device which is in my opinion unnessery. (Only one speaker is defect.) But it seems that is the pollicy of Nokia....every Phone in repair will be reflashed with the latest firmware.

I have a back-up made by OVI-suite, i hope i can put the back-up back on the phone and have all my programs and contacts settings back....

Did you by chance use Nitdroid, very early MeeGo snapshots or in other ways modify mixer settings in a non-standard way?

No i haven't, N900 was oc'ed at 900MHz with power kernel v46.
Lately no changes made, suddenly i noticed, when i want viewing a video, no sound is coming from the left speaker. I rebooted the device, no change.
Also all the "system" sound, like sounds from keyboard/touchscreen response, ringtones, mp3, bootvideo just sound from right speaker.
When playing thru 3.5 mm headphone jack, both sides work normall. e.a i have left and right sound.
My first thought was " there is a speaker defect", i have still warrenty on the device, so i took it to a Nokia Care Center here in the city.
The guy there said, they will look at it, and he tells me that they also do a firmware update... I told him that this is proberbly not the fault, that it is hust the speaker..
He said they will do a firmware update anyway, so the device has the latest fixes. I told him that the latest firmware is on the device, with a lot of (paid) apps. He answerd " we don't care, we are not responsible for data loss." Lucky i have made a back-up with OVI suite....
Now i'm waiting until the device is coming back from Nokia..........

What you should have done, I think, is used backupmenu to back up your whole system to an sdhc card. Then you should have reflashed yourself to see if the problem was fixed. Then keep the card and send the N900 to Nokia if the probem wasn't fixed. When Nokia returned the N900, all you would have to do is reinstall backupmenu and have your whole system reinstalled in just minutes.
