Google has mentioned that app sales (read revenues) is an area that they're looking to improve, and this may be a sign of how things are improving!

Cases like these are compelling reasons for developers to release apps.

To be honest and serious for a moment, though, knee-jerk reactions of telling off your customers (i.e. the famous Steve Jobs "you're holding it wrong"), your fellow consumers (as you said, "I don't have that problem--must be your problem") is a wasted opportunity to examine something with a different perspective. At worst, you acknowledge a problem and nothing is made the worse for most people. At best, you might hit upon a different way of thinking or to look at something, and improved the experience of your entire customer base.

It's less me and probably just more a Silicon Valley cultural mentality I try to hold onto when it comes to constant improvement. Nokia... hear that? Constant improvement?

Tell me about it. When I first showed up here on InternetTabletTalk, people complimenting me about how I was arguing reasonably and how that will never fly around here. Ironically, some of those same people didn't like it when I started criticizing Nokia for various missteps and outright unethical business behavior and low standards. If only Nokia had listened over these years I've been here, right?

But danaramos, don't act as if you're the only one who's been right. I'll bet anything you could have brought Nokia down using your own uniquely creative methods.

I've definitely not been the only one. You rightfully know very well that I've got your good company in this group. You have to admit, though, we've been in a minority for a long time. We're like nerdy prophets people preferred to ignore as raving lunatics until things started to come true.

And thus I stand triumphantly upon the crumbled remains of Nokia's embers and exoskeletal remains, wringing my paws with a wide and wicked grin. Nokia executives and managers run by screaming in abject fear mixed with loathing, some de-evolving into Balmeresque monsters, throwing chairs and curses into the inky night air.

Actually, that's not new. Virgin had already had this deal with their first Android offering last year (Samsung Intercept). Still--rock solid f'ing AWESOME, just the same.

Could this have been known all along? Could the Sammy execs statements been a reflection of this hidden info? Did they do some last-minute 'back cover' tooling (it looks far more flush with the surface)?

For these prices, it would pay to get the phone for the SIM alone...

It seems as though I'm ready to take the plunge as a java developer!

Beyond very simple tests of the language, I have experience programming procedurally (duh), with objects, with aspects, and using/creating a multitude of data structures over a variety of languages and OSs.

After much researching, I have found java to be a very expressive and interesting language, that offers flexibility, great productivity, outstanding performance, portability (a huge one) and an extremely rich repository of useful classes.

I've always been curious about 3D graphics programming and have been drawn to it, though have no experience (at all) in this realm. I would like to explore it at some point!

That said, I may try to flex my muscle on an Android app at some point. The question remains: what to program? I'm not into redundant applications, nor to spark a revolution, so it remains to be seen what I could do.

In any case, it's an exciting frontier for me!

Virgin Mobile runs on the Sprint network (CDMA) so no sim card. However, I believe the Optimus V can easily be setup to be a wifi hotspot and share your "unlimited" data.

I wish one of the GSM providers would do a similar option to use in my N900.
