    I can no longer load abiword from Dev (deforma missing?) and it seems the abiword thread has gone dark.

    Is this just me? Or have others moved on to a different way to display and {lightly} edit .doc files?

    Is "deforma" something that should be installed? If so, would flashing/resetting the N900 fix this?

    Update: After re-Flashing AbiWord installs. I think the "deforma" problem arises when an uninstall of
    AbiWord removes too much...?

    Try easy debian. You get a desktop icon for OpenOffice 3!

    I was hoping for a native App.

    When abiword was working I could typically run it then open a file and read/edit/save what I needed in the time it took to open EasyDebian/OpenOffice

    freOffice works pretty well but after a month of using it the file associations broke somehow. It would no longer open office files from the file manager/web/emails. You had to open freoffice and try to open the file manually that way.

    i dont use open office for the exact reason you describe, however abiword opens up almost immediatly. from maemo terminal if you type 'debbie abiword' it opens up just as quickly as a native app. openoffice sucks on the desktop never mind on a phone.

    If I install through Easy Debian I don't need the "defoma" package that it doesn't find when trying to install directly from Extras-Dev?
    {see OP}
