"Nokia is working on the release of a product this year, expected to raise the interest of the MeeGo community. It comes with an OS codenamed Harmattan that is API compatible with MeeGo 1.2."

Thanks for the link to the session at the MeeGo Conference, although the news about Harmattan only being "half-MeeGo" as you put it has been known for months.

Actually the first MeeGo device being Harmattan from Nokia has been known since the announcement of MeeGo. Just before the WP announcement people where guessing that the MeeGo delay from Nokia was because of Nokia going straight to MeeGo core and not using harmattan.

Personally i'm ok if not even liking that it's Harmattan. MeeGo for me was a bit of a downer as i have been waiting harmattan since 2008 announcement and as the N950 will just one "MeeGo" device from Nokia in big time scale, if not even standalone device i don't mind at all it being harmattan.

Naturally my interest has come down quite a bit, but still wanna see that device and more importantly the UI and if it's any good i will buy it.

This just quotes the OP's original links data which as another poster has already said is old news for anybody who reads this forum regularly anyway?

As I understand it the first meego device was always going to run a harmatten/meego os hence why the N900 is used as the hardware adpation phone. But eventually the Meego o/s would have moved to RPM and so had a completely different hardware whether Nokia ever make a device running full blown Meego os will I assume depend on how succesful, or not, their WP7 phones prove to be in the future.

Being a harmatten/meego os is good news for any N900 owner as it means we will eventually get this os on our phones but how useable that will be and time will tell but the suggestion we may have access to apps.meego sounds promising as it may become something more than just a "developers/power users" phone.

Update just found link that states more or less what I have just typed!

My biggest concern is how "left alone" the N950 will be in the MeeGo apps space: I would like to be able to install apps on the N950 that were designed for use on MeeGo.

I know that talk about the API is right there. I still don't think there's any guarantee the N950 community won't be limited to its users.

Nut sure if this helps you, or me, but TwimGO seems to run Ok on the N900 and also on WeTab which appeard to be based on meego os, if this is representitive of other meego apps we may be OK?

I hope this phone won't have a real qwerty so I don't have to buy this device.

Then i got a good feeling that you might be saved from need of buying the N950.
For me it's not a deal breaker, would i take ~16mm or thinner phone with qwerty over it, yes.

Damn, the N950 would have been perfect with a qwerty keyboard, I just looked at the specs list and it seems amazing! But unusable for me without a physical keyboard.
