I do think he made the right call at this stage of market maturity.

Having a single product (with a ridiculously simple product name to boot) enables them to bombard the market with a single marketing message for that single product.

Unless it's a mature market where people already want tablets in sufficiently large quantity so the vendors can spread out their effort to more form factors.

As suggested I have changed the thread title to the Android thread which is much more appropriate. Or should it be Android Tablets thread?

Have you guys tried out the new Opera browser for tablets?

It is really snapie and fast....I used it for 5 mins so far....and notice how the browser automatically blows up the page when I switch to landscape.

I also notice that scrolling is extremely smooth....mind you; this is all while the page is still loading.

I have.. and I like it. I've tried Firefox, Dolphin, Opera, and every version of the Google Android Browser and so on... and I've settled on Dolphin and Opera as my two favorites. I still prefer Dolphin because it handles Flash playing/blocking, cache flushing, etc. far more gracefully--but side from that stuff, Opera is just floooooooooid, yesh! I even love it far better than Dolphin for the whole browsing experience aside from blocking.

I prefer "Android thread" since we've covered a whoooole lot more than just the Samsung's... and even covered more than just tablets. Even if the thread DID start out as a Samsung Tablet thread, I think we've ever talked and compared various Android form factors and devices, and even talked technical about how to fix general Android issues--good even for the phone crowd.

This thread has become EPIC.

I have always thought that the name could be a bit of a mouthful -- eg. Samsung Galaxy Tab. Now with the number designation (complete with decimal points), this is too much for a lay consumer to juggle -- eg. Samsung Galaxy Tab 8 point 9.

I always liked the 'NetPad' name I came up with as a user-friendly name for the N900 before it was released (this was part of a TMO thread to dream up names, before the iPad as well). Of course, this trademark was owned by Psion (IIRC), although it could have been bought.

I *do* like Galaxy Tab more than NetPad, though. Perhaps a simple removal of the size designations, for something more like S, M, L, XL (similar to clothing sizes). That way, the size would be an afterthought and not part of the name outright. Thus the Galaxy Tab would be the Galaxy Tab, it's just that in the end you'd get the Galaxy Tab medium (or some such).

I rather like it. My first thought is that 'Android Thread' could be far too inclusive (eg phones), though 'The Android Tablets Thread' is a little more specialized.

This is just a suggestion, I'm not sure myself, to be honest. Thoughts?

EDIT: On second thought, Dan makes a good point. I'd vote to stick with the existing title for now and see how it goes! This thread is epic.

Here are some nifty features:
  • Make and place calls using this tiny device and leave your Tab in your bag.
  • It is so much smaller than a cellphone for comfortable pocket carrying
  • Talk time is claimed to be up to 6 hours
  • Is Bluetooth and thus wireless
  • Has vibra-alert option

Can you see why I'm so excited? It's not as practical as a cell phone in certain situations, where you don't have a bag, but it should be more than adequate for many, especially if you're a business person, or the type that frequently carries a bag/case around. The Tab stays in the bag and the Stick stays in your pocket. IMO it's better than having a headset hanging off of your hear 24/7 -- to me it's uncomfortable and I don't make enough calls to justify it.

Best of all, you can use the Stick and your Tab at the same time, which makes it GRAND for in-office use. It's not as good for around the house, though, as you'd effectively have to carry both units with you (unless you had a very small and/or cozy flat).
