Right I have a message that has a envolope and a red exclamation on it. Anybody know what it means?

if u have a particular message in that entire conversation that wasnt delivered at some point of time.. u will get a red envelope with an exclamation
compare this with a delivered conversation

i had to delete the entire convo thread to get rid of it, as the failed message eventually sent but the red exclamation mark didn't disapear

Normally deleting the failed msg should suffice. Just tried it, worked fine.

the thing is I deleted a message and then it came up. so am not sure what am supposed to do

Delete the msg that could not be delivered and reboot the device . This usually does the job for me

if the problem keeps occuring you may need to check the SMS centre number is the one of your sim card
to check just go to conversation settings and check the sms centre number
