in the picture it uses two USB-ports so I don't think this will work with N810

These devices draw a lot of power, so with USB 1.1 devices you'll need two USB connectors to get enough current. USB 2.0 interfaces can often provide more power so there you can often get away with one cable. In any case, there's no way you can draw 0.5 ampere or more from an internet tablet.

The way I've been using a similar item is to connect it to a PC, connect a wi-fi router to the PC, and access the network through wi-fi with the PC as router. It can also, with some work (re-flashing the router with Linux wrt) be plugged directly into a wi-fi router with USB 2.0 ports.

What you can't do with hsdpa modems is to plug them directly into mobile devices (even if you had full-size, host-mode USB connectors). At least for now: HSDPA is too power hungry.

there are cellphones with HSPDA that one can use as modems, I wonder why they don't make such a device (as these ones you showed us) with their own battery and with bluetooth.
Just a carry around bluetooth modem...

Leave the phone inside the pocket where it should be, and do all your reading on the N810 screen.

What the tablets really need is the cellular equivalent of a GPS head : a battery, Bluetooth, a slot for a 3G+ SIM card and a way to pair it. Essentially, a phone without a screen, keyboard, microphone, speaker or any other extra fluff (camera radio mp3 etc.). Doesn't seem to be much of a market for such a beast though :-)

There's at least a market of one, because I *) would buy it. And maybe the OP too..

*) well, at least if I could get some insurances from my carrier that 3G/HSDPA actually will start working properly.. right now it's rubbish. I use one of those USB thingies, but it can only be used for downloading data (slowly), interactive sites like gmail doesn't work. But if it _did_ I would be all for fpp's suggestion!
